2025/26 Season | How The Players Performed

15th May 2026

Ravens manager Chris Bass made a couple of new additions to his squad, most notably the addition of striker Lewis Whitham, a player who had won this league before with Ashton United a couple of seasons before. The boys won promotion, somehow finding their form just at the right time in the playoffs. Here is this season’s best XI:

GOALKEEPER | Jordan Davidson

Jordan was born in Wishaw, Scotland but moved to the Isle of Man with his family as a child. The goalkeeper played in the Isle of Man domestic league for St.Georges from 2017 for 2 seasons before being selected for the inaugural FC Isle of Man squad in July 2020. Began the 2020/21 season in the North West Counties League Division 1 South as understudy to Edwin Tepperik but was handed a first team chance against Stockton Town on 4th November 2020. Jordan never looked back and kept his place for the rest of the season and helped The Ravens to the North West Counties League Division 1 South title. His level of performance helped him win the Golden Glove for most clean sheets in the league during 2020/21. Jordan was club no.1 when FC Isle of Man won the North West Counties League Premier Division title in 2022/23. Was an ever-present in the side for the 3rd successive season during 2023/24. Won promotion from Northern Premier League Division 1 North West via playoffs in 2025/26.

A tough season for Jordan in all, probably not helped by what many consider the poorest FC Isle of Man defence since the club formed.

RIGHT BACK | Isaac Currie

Isaac was born in Nottingham and began his career in the Burton Albion academy but was released in 2015. Moved to the United States in 2017 and enjoyed spells with SC United Bantams, Reading United and Philadelphia Fury. He returned to England in 2019 and signed for Grantham Town in the Northern Premier League. After a loan spell with Ilkeston Town signed for Guiseley of the Vanarama North in 2020/21, making 15 appearances. Signed for FC Isle of Man whilst a free agent on 31st January 2022. Made his Ravens debut on 5th February 2022 in the 4-3 win over Vauxhall Motors in the North West Counties League Premier Division. Won the North West Counties League Premier Division in 2022/23. Won promotion from Northern Premier League Division 1 North West via playoffs in 2025/26.

Isaac is still considered the best right back option at the club.

CENTRE BACK | Phillip Duffy

Phillip was born in Westport, Ireland and began his career with Swallownest of the North Counties East League Division One, making his debut aged 16 against Thorne Colliery. Worked his way through the youth system becoming captain of both U18 and U23 sides. Signed for FC Isle of Man on 17th July 2023 and, at 6’5″, was seen as a potential replacement for the departing giant Matt Furness (6’7″). Made his Ravens debut on 22nd August 2023 in the 4-0 win over Pontefract Town in the Northern Premier League Division One North West. Scored his 1st Ravens goal on 30th August 2023 in the 4-1 win over Yorkshire Amateur, scoring a brace of headers in the game. Won promotion from Northern Premier League Division 1 North West via playoffs in 2025/26.

Another consistent season from Phillip. With question marks being raised on the defence in general, some believe he is out of his depth at this level.

CENTRE BACK | Alex Morris

Alex was born in Wolverhampton and began his career with his hometown club in the Wolverhampton Wanderers academy but was released in 2010 having not being able to break into the 1st team. Signed for Hednesford Town in the Northern Premier League where he remained for 5 seasons. Moved to nearby Chasetown before having spells at Romulus, Hinckley and Mickleover Sports. Most recently at Quorn in 2018/19 before being released. Signed for FC Isle of Man on 24th October 2020. Made his Ravens debut later that day in the 3-3 draw with St.Martins in the North West Counties League Division 1 South, becoming the first ‘non-islander’ to play for the club. Scored his 1st Ravens goal on 9th January 2021 in the 4-3 defeat at Golcar United in the North West Counties League 1st Division Challenge Cup. Won the North West Counties League Division 1 South in 2020/21. Won the North West Counties League Premier Division in 2022/23. Won promotion from Northern Premier League Division 1 North West via playoffs in 2025/26.

Now 32 and in his 6th season at the club. Probably his worst season for the club and he won’t have been happy with the club’s defensive record this season.

LEFT BACK | Ty Florence

Ty was born in Rugby and signed for local club Nuneaton Boro in 2020. He was loaned to Nuneaton Griff later that season going on to make 35 appearances in the Midland Football League Division One. Loans followed with South Park in 2021/22 and Andover New Street in 2022/23. He was released from Nuneaton Boro and signed for Ball Haye Green for the 2024/25 season making 31 appearances in the Midland Football League Division 1. Signed for FC Isle of Man on 30th July 2025. Made his Ravens debut on 23rd August 2025 in the 4-2 win at Bamber Bridge in the Northern Premier League Division 1 North West. Won promotion from Northern Premier League Division 1 North West via playoffs in 2025/26.

Ty was brought in by Bass as backup for Leke Ajibode, however due to Leke’s decline in form found himself in the starting XI. Although pacey, lacks defensive bite and hasn’t offered enough going forward.

RIGHT MIDFIELD | Wesley Magee

Wesley is a native islander, born in Douglas, who joined the FC Isle of Man youth team for it’s inaugural season. Made his Ravens debut on 7th April 2021 against Cammell Laird in the North West Counties League Division 1 South. Scored his 1st Ravens goal on 3rd September 2022 against New Mills, scoring twice in the 3-1 win. Had an excellent 2022/23 helping his hometown club to the North West Counties League Premier Division title contributing with 20 assists. Won promotion from Northern Premier League Division 1 North West via playoffs in 2025/26.

Another decent showing from Wesley although he finds himself being challenged in the position by another homegrown lad in Jay Forbes. Jay is considered a more technical player

CENTRE MIDFIELD | Bobby Johnson

Bobby was born in Worksop and began his career with Retford United of the Northern Counties East League Premier back in 2014/15. Spells with Frickley Athletic and Goole followed before he signed for North Ferriby United of the Vanarama North in 2017/18. Impressed enough to sign for Alfreton Town also in the Vanarama North the following season and went on to make 95 appearances for them in the following 3 seasons. Moved to Northwich Victoria in 2021/22 and made 25 appearances for the Vics before being released in 2023. Signed for FC Isle of Man in May 2023. Made his Ravens debut on 22nd August 2023 in the 4-0 win over Pontefract Town in the Northern Premier League Division One North West, scoring his first goal for the club during that game. Won promotion from Northern Premier League Division 1 North West via playoffs in 2025/26.

Bobby is now 32 and his levels look on the wane. You can’t deny his ability from set pieces but this season he hasn’t been the assist machine that he previously was. A position Chris Bass will need to seriously consider improving next season in the Northern Premier League.

CENTRE MIDFIELD | Stewart McConville

Stewart is a native islander, born in Douglas, who joined the FC Isle of Man youth team for the 2022/23 season. After excelling at youth team level was given his Ravens debut on 1st April 2023 in the 4-1 win over Lower Breck in the North West Counties League Premier Division. Scored his 1st Ravens goal on 30th March 2024 in the 3-1 win at Runcorn Linnets in the Northern Premier League Division One North West. Won promotion from Northern Premier League Division 1 North West via playoffs in 2025/26.

Once again Stewart was consistent at this level. An ankle injury in October disrupted his season but he still did a decent job in the box-to-box midfield role.

LEFT MIDFIELD | Jedd Townsend

Jedd was born in Workington and began his career with his hometown club Workington in 2020, turning out for their junior side Workington Junior Reds. He was loaned out to Sunderland RCA in 2021/22 and then to Newcastle Benfield in 2022/23 where he impressed in the Northern Football League, scoring 6 and assisting 7 times. He was further loaned out to Eccleshill in 2024/25 before being released by Workington. Signed for FC Isle of Man on 20th October 2025. Made his Ravens debut on 22nd October 2025 in the 3-2 win over Clitheroe in the Northern Premier League Division 1 North West. Scored his 1st Ravens goal on 26th October 2025 in the 3-1 win over Avro in the FA Trophy 2nd Qualifying Round. Won promotion from Northern Premier League Division 1 North West via playoffs in 2025/26.

Jedd is a similar type of player to Akim Samms but offers more pace and Chris Bass sees potential in the 21 year old, 4 years junior to Akim. Got off to a good start to his FC Isle of Man career and has shown to be a goal threat.

STRIKER | Brian Esperance

Brian was born and spent his formative years in the small village of Slootdorp in the Netherlands. Brian moved to the Isle of Man in his early 20’s and played in the Isle of Man amateur leagues for Rushen United. Having proved himself as one of the most deadly strikers in the Isle of Man domestic league was selected for FC Isle of Man’s inaugural squad in July 2020. He made his debut on 4th August 2020 in the club’s first ever game against AFC Wythenshawe Amateurs in the North West Counties League Division 1 South. Brian scored his first Ravens goal on 19th August 2020 in the 4-2 win against Alsager. Scoring 37 goals during the 2020/21 season, Brian helped FC Isle of Man win the North West Counties League Division 1 South at the first attempt. His efforts didn’t go unnoticed and he was voted FC Isle of Man’s Supporters’ Player of the Year for 2020/21 as well as being the club’s top scorer. Bagged 41 goals the following season in the North West Counties Premier League including the goal of the season against AFC Blackpool where he dribbled from his own half and unleashed a screamer. A memorable goal in the FA Cup at Boston United endeared him to the supporters who voted him Supporters Player of the Season in 2021/22. The 2022/23 season was perhaps his pinnacle, scoring 6 hat-tricks and 10 braces, going on to score 53 goals and winning the North West Counties League Premier Division title. Add in the North West Counties League Premier Division top scorer award as well as Supporters Player of the Year to round off a very successful year. FC Isle of Man’s and the Northern Premier League Division One North West top goalscorer in 2023/24. The 2024/25 season started with Esperance on fire, scoring a club record 6 goals in one match against Pontefract Collieries on 21st August 2024. Finished up with 40 goals in just 35 appearances before a cruel hip injury ruled him out for up to 8 months in February 2025. Won promotion from Northern Premier League Division 1 North West via playoffs in 2025/26. Voted the Supporters’ Player of the Season for a 6th time in 2025/26.

Somehow got himself fit for the start of the season when it was thought he would be out until October. Still returned 30+ goals but has evidently lost a yard or two of pace. He keeps going though but next season will be a tough challenge in the Northern Premier League you would think, but this is Brian Esperance, the miracle man.

STRIKER | Lewis Whitham

Lewis was born in Barsnley and began his career with Stocksbridge Park Steels in 2019/20, scoring 5 times in 25 appearances in the Northern Premier League Division 1 South East. Moved on to Shepshed Dynamo in 2020/21 returning an impressive 19 goals which earned him a move to Ashton United. Lewis helped Ashton win the Northern Premier League Division 1 North West title in 2021/22 with 13 goals. Made 134 appearances for Ashton United in all, scoring 31 times. Was released by Ashton at the end of 2024/25 following their relegation from the Northern Premier League. Signed for FC Isle of Man on 14th August 2025. He made his Ravens debut on 16th August 2025 and also got a debut goal in the 3-2 win at Skelmersdale in the Northern Premier League Division 1 North West. Won promotion from Northern Premier League Division 1 North West via playoffs in 2025/26. Was voted FC Isle of Man’s Supporters’ Young Player of the Season in 2025/26.

Seeing that Whitham was available on a free, Chris Bass wasted no time bringing him to the club. A player who has won the league at this level previously, it was a no-brainer to recruit him. No doubt the signing of the season who got off to a good start and was immediately liked by the fans.
