2024/25 Season | How The Players Performed

Supporters’ Player of the Season

BRIAN ESPERANCE | Striker (Centre)

Here we are once again handing the Supporters’ Player of the Season award to striker Brian Esperance. It’s now 5 out of 5 for Brian, the only FC Isle of Man player to have ever won this award. Now boasting 217 goals for the club in 211 appearances, he is firmly heading towards a bronze statue being built in his honour when he finally does call it a day. Another incredible season for the Dutchman who was surely heading for a record goals haul when injury struck him down in February which proved to everybody he is mortal after all. With 40 goals in just 35 games and the best part of 3 months of the season left to play, it looked a good bet he was going to reach 50 goals. However, a broken hip picked up after an innocuous looking challenge against Bamber Bridge put paid to that. Some fans joked there should have been a minutes silence in the following game (a 3-2 defeat to Skelmersdale) to mark his absence. Facing 8 months out, some question whether the now 32 year old will ever be the same player again when he returns.

Supporters’ Young Player of the Season

SHAUN ADAMS | Defender (Centre)

Despite making 101 appearances for FC Isle of Man over the past 5 seasons, Shaun Adams can be forgiven for feeling like a nearly man. Always seemingly the 3rd choice behind centre-backs Alex Morris, Matt Furness (whilst he was here) and now Phillip Duffy, Adams has never let the club down when called upon. “I feel like there should be a plaque with my name on one of those substitute seats on the bench,” joked Adams. The 2024/25 season has seen Adams’ best performances in an FC Isle of Man shirt, his 23 appearances and 4 goals may have been taken for granted by his manager but had not gone unnoticed by the supporters. One of the local lads born and raised in Douglas, many supporters felt he deserved a regular place in the starting XI, Adams’ average match rating of 6.97 being the 3rd highest at the club this season behind only the legendary Brian Esperance and James Sunderland. With Bass preferring a tall presence in the centre-back position (Alex Morris and Phillip Duffy both measure in at 6’6″), Adams at 5’11” is not getting any taller and may always, unfortunately, find himself being the bridesmaid.
